About the place:
Seilh is a small village in France that has an interesting history. Known as the ‘City of 100 Bell Towers’, Seilh was once known for its large collection of churches and bell towers. However, over time many were destroyed or fell into disrepair leaving only about two dozen left standing today. Being one of those who still remain intact, this church tower stands out to visitors with its unique look thanks to the stone spiral staircase winding up around it rather than inside it like most others are constructed.
If you are looking for a beautiful place to go, Seilh is the perfect destination! It’s a commune in the Gironde department in southwestern France. The town has been inhabited since at least Roman times, when it was known as Cessero, and may have earlier origins. Seilh preserves buildings of all eras including some fine examples of Romanesque architecture. This rural village has plenty of natural beauty and charm. The narrow streets are lined with houses that date back centuries ago. There is also an old church that was built in 1905 that still stands today. You can take hikes through the countryside or visit the nearby villages by car.
Things to do in Seilih:
The town of Seilih is a great place for visitors to explore the countryside. Hiking trails can be found in abundance while hiking through this region. There are also several wineries that allow guests to take part in wine tasting opportunities.
Visitors looking for something more adventurous may want to try their hand at rock climbing or rappelling which can both be done on the outskirts of Seilih. If you’re into history then visiting Chateau Forteresse de Sedan will provide you with all sorts of excitement and learning experiences as well.
It’s really important to visit the Château de la Treyne. The castle was built in 1328 and is one of Seilh’s oldest medieval castles, dating back to the Middle Ages. It has been renovated multiple times throughout history until it fell into neglect after World War II. Nowadays, only ruins remain of its foundation while some parts still stand tall with walls that are more than four meters thick at their widest point. There are guided tours available during certain hours on select days between April and October where you can visit these historic sites within the fortress which used to be a military stronghold for centuries before being abandoned once WWI began.
