This mediaeval beauty built in the 12th century is located just outside Sarlat, in the golden triangle of the Dordogne, and has superb views over the countryside, due to its hilltop position. It’s only 5 minutes away from Sarlat, 1 hour from Bergerac airport and 2h20 from Bordeaux airport, which makes it a great place for living or business ventures.
The property was once a watch tower and offers 4 floors. You enter it through a big wooden door opening to the hallway with authentic stone floors and walls. On the right you’ll see the newly equipped kitchen with two doors opening to the south-facing terrace, revealing a gorgeous view of the countryside. On the ground floor you’ll also find a laundry room and a bathroom.
An impressive stone staircase leads to the first floor, where the first thing you see is the authentically preserved stone sink and a dazzling living room, bathed in the sun rays, entering through the 4 big windows, overlooking the view.
The master bedroom you’ll find on the second floor with 4 large windows facing the view, original stone walls, a bathroom and a parquet floor.
The newly renovated fourth floor offers two bedrooms and a bathroom. In the living room and master bathroom you can enjoy an underfloor heating, as for the rest of the property – a central gas heating is available.
Next to the chateau you’ll find a guest house on 2 floors with an ensuite bathroom and a terrace. On the ground floor there’s a living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Two more bedrooms and bathrooms are waiting for you on the first floor, again with a central gas heating.
The property sits in 9.2 hectares of land including meadow and woodland, plus a salt pool and a pool house, wonderfully completing this gorgeous mansion.
About the place:
Sarlat-la-Canéda is a medieval town located in the Dordogne. The old city center was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites because it represents “an outstanding example of a medieval planned town, which preserves its original layout and many structures built in the 13th century.” It has been listed as one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages, and if you have any interest in history then this should be at the top of your list to visit! The city is filled with beautiful architecture that dates back to Roman times. Many buildings are shaped around courtyards where people lived together for centuries before individual houses were built.
Things to do in Sarlat:
The Dordogne region is very popular with tourists because of its beautiful scenery, historic castles and other attractions. Peyré castle is an authentic chateau with a museum that displays live demonstrations on how people lived in the Middle Ages. Visitors can also enjoy good local cuisine such as duck pâté or foie gras at one of its three restaurants inside the castle. The restaurant prices are not too bad either.
Lascaux II – This museum features more than 200 prehistoric paintings that were discovered nearby and have been preserved within their original setting since Paleolithic times (about 20,000 BC).
