Niort is a small town situated on the banks of the River Clain, in Western France. The population of Niort numbers about 25000 people and is known for its traditional architecture. The city center has many old buildings which are made from limestone with slate roofs (a common feature in this part of France). The town was founded by the Romans who named it Noviomagus Nemetum – meaning ‘new market’. It’s an important regional center for agriculture, brewing, and tourism.
