About the place:
Lot is a commune in the south of France. It is located in the Lot département, which is part of Occitania. The town was originally settled by Celts and then Romans before it became an important center for trade between Aquitaine and Gascony. Today, it is known primarily for its wine production with over 20 AOCs to choose from.
The city contains one of the most important prehistoric sites. It was discovered by archaeologists when they started their work on a new road in 1862. The site at Lot has been inhabited since Neolithic times (over 7000 years ago). There are many things that can be seen here such as cave paintings from over 20,000 years ago, real-life size mammoth cut into the rock, menhirs (huge stones standing), dolmens (table-stones), and cromlechs (circle of big stones), and more than 200 burial chambers.
It has an old-fashioned charm that you cannot find anywhere else, and it’s perfect for those who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. There are many things to do here, including visiting some of the historic landmarks or sampling wines at one of the local vineyards. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are also plenty of outdoor activities available.
