Cintegabelle, France is a small town with a population of only about 2,000. It’s located in the region of Bordeaux and has an average elevation of almost 1 foot above sea level. The town was first mentioned as “Castellum Cencii Belae” back in 1036 AD and was originally owned by Duke William IV d’Aquitaine. There are also two other towns nearby: Saint-Martin-d’Armagnac and Castillonnès.
The town is known for its amazing views of peaks and valleys during the winter months. The walls are built to protect against avalanches by directing them around the town instead of into it allowing villagers to continue with daily activities without interruption. It was originally built as a food hall for local farmers but now it’s filled with artisan shops selling everything from jams, honey, and biscuits to handbags, scarves, and beautiful French pottery.
There are many local farms and small shops which sell their produce directly from the farm or at one of the weekly markets held in Cintegabelle, France each week. Visit the Castle of Cintegabelle, built in 1275. It is located on a hill overlooking the village and surrounding area with views of Mont Ventoux.
