About the place:
Bengy-sur-Craon is a commune of the department of Cher in the region of Berry. It is located at the beginning of the Craon river. Historically, it was an important place for trade and crafts, thanks to its location along one side of a bridge over the River Cher on which goods could be transported by boat. The town has been classified as “One flower” since 1977 by France’s National Council for Plants and Gardens.
The town’s history dates back to Roman times where finds have been discovered indicating that there could have been an important Gallo-Roman settlement in this area called “Curtuniacum” which would be the origin of the current name. It’s located on a hillock that offers picturesque views across the Loire Valley and its forests, making it an idyllic place to visit with any traveler looking for some relaxation time in France. The commune was built along what used to be one of the most important highways linking Paris with Brittany so it’s no wonder this area has attracted travelers coming from all over Europe throughout centuries past.
